About

My name is Suzanne Bird-Harris and I’m the coach / web designer here and at the @SuzanneBHarris Twitter account. I help entrepreneurs like you create or improve your web presence so you can use the web to make money doing your thing – in this lifetime!

You can read the history of Suzanne-Bird-Harris.com, but let me give you the gist of it in one line: Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it!

The Mom/Grandma

mybroodI’m a single mom of three, two boys and a girl, six years apart in age, and I’m a grandma already. My office is my home, so if you call here outside my business hours (9am-3pm CT M-Th), you’ll hear kids and dogs and all manner of other racket in the background. That’s why I have published business hours – to spare you all that drama. If you need to talk to me outside of those hours, consider yourself warned, and you’ll have to schedule it ahead of time.

mesweetpeaBut it’s the single mom thing that had me wishing I was self-employed. Trust me, when your kids are this far apart in age, it’s like having 3 separate families to take care of and having to show up 5 days a week to do the 8-5 thing at an office somewhere just does not work for me. That last year I was employed I had a kid in high school, a kid in elementary school and a toddler. If having a job in the face of all that isn’t a recipe for insanity, I don’t know what is!

I’d like to tell you that I made my grand exit from the corporate world on my own terms, but no…that’s not how it happened. I had worked for two companies for ten years each and been laid off from both. After that first layoff, I started a network marketing business and started making my escape-from-Corporate-America plan.

Looking back, that second layoff was the best thing that ever happened to me, because God only knows how long I would have hung in there “planning my escape” instead of actually escaping. (I know many, many people who are still planning…)

The Coach/Web Designer

I always love the surprised reaction I get from people when I tell them what I do for a living. Coaching and web design seem like opposite ends of the spectrum to many people, but they’re the perfect blend for me. Successfully using the Internet to grow your business isn’t just about having a great website, although I’ll give you that’s an important element. Websites in WordPress is the web design end of my business.

Just as important, though, is knowing who you are, what you have to offer and to whom…specifically. This is the part I find many people skip over and 9 times out of 10, it’s the missing piece of their online success puzzle. This and other topics I address at Learning Curve Coaching, the coaching end of my business.

So when you work with me, you get someone who is just as interested in helping you understand the ‘whys’ as the ‘whats’ when it comes to your online presence.

You’re Not a VA?

Here in the middle, between coaching and web design, is where I do all the rest of the technical stuff you need done online, all the things that aren’t specifically WordPress-related. So, am I a VA? Not in the traditional sense, no. But in a way, yes: I assist you, and I do it virtually.
