Paying Through PayPal When There's No Button to Click

blueenterkeyIsn’t it funny how we take for granted that other people know what we know? But they don’t, do they? I ran into it myself this week…three times…over PayPal. Three different clients wanted to pay me but didn’t know how to do that without clicking a PayPal button at my site.

I thought back over the years I’ve been using PayPal, and realized that my early use of PayPal was not for online shopping…it was for sending money to business partners in my network marketing organization who were not local to me. No PayPal buttons involved in that…

PayPal’s Send Money Tab

Making payments through PayPal when there’s no button to click is really quite easy. You will need:

  • the PayPal email address of the person or entity you’re trying to pay
  • the amount you’re trying to pay

Login to your PayPal account. Across the top of the page, you’ll see tabs. Click the Send Money tab.

You’ll be taken to the Send Money page:

On the next page, you’ll be able to change the funding source (in case you want to use a credit card instead of your PayPal balance, for example) and modify the default email message that gets sent along with your payment, if you wish.

I recommend modifying that email message. It helps the person receiving your payment identify it from other payments they’ve received. So, for example, if I’ve sent you an invoice, I appreciate it when you put the invoice number in the subject of the email (i.e. Payment for Invoice # 32452). It helps me match up your payment with your invoice.

Next, click the ‘Send Money’ button and you’re all done!

You’ll get an email receipt for your payment, and the person you paid will get the email you modified with your message and everyone will be happy. And no buttons required!

Hi Deb – thanks for commenting. The reason your site won't accept the regular button coding is because it uses JavaScript, and WordPress.com doesn't allow users to use JavaScript on their sites.
